We are happy to announce that AMERICAN WAKE has been chosen by the folks at WNET/Thirteen, the flagship New York PBS Station, to launch a new Saturday night broadcast series called REEL 13.

Debuting with the broadcast of AMERICAN WAKE on January 5, 2008, REEL 13 is a curated film showcase for classic, short and independent films. At its heart is a Saturday night line-up of classics, shorts and independents, and a new website (www.reel13.org), giving cinema fans a comprehensive forum for screening, blogging, critiquing, exchanging ideas and learning about film.

“Reel 13 is an exciting example of public television at its best, most original and most relevant,” said Neal Shapiro, president of Thirteen. REEL 13 will be “home to intriguing but underexposed works culled from film festivals around the world. Now small-budget projects that can’t compete with the major studios get to fly above the radar” while “knowledgeable hosts – taped at locations around New York – add to the experience, giving viewers insight into the films and celebrating New York’s unique place in the world of cinema.”

Our thanks go out to all the folks at WNET/Thirteen, particularly Neal Shapiro, Rich Siegmeister and Deirdre Branley, as well as to our colleagues at Horizon Entertainment.

Here is what the critics have said about AMERICAN WAKE and The American Wake Soundtrack ~

“a love letter to Cambridge and environs…fishermen unloading in Wedgwood-blue early morning mist, scullers gliding down the Charles on bright spring afternoons, the auburn glow of the back room of The Burren, where Irish (and Irish-inspired) musicians throw parties for their audiences every night of the week.”
- Leslie Brokaw, The Boston Globe

“luminous and authentic…”
- Peter Keough, The Boston Phoenix

“Maureen Foley has added another small gem to her resume with ‘American Wake’, a music-infused and influenced portrait of Bostonians in search of meaning and fulfillment.”
- James Verniere, The Boston Herald

1/2 - Film Score Monthly
"The quality of the music here is better than many similarly-themed Hollywood productions...the tracks move well between upbeat folk stylings and beautifully reflective melodic lines ~ these two styles reflect the parallel stories of the two main characters...Overall, an attractive score with a lot of heart."
- Steven A. Kennedy, Film Score Monthly

“Reunion: A Decade of Solas” was recently released by Compass Records, to universal acclaim. The DVD/CD was filmed and recorded live in Philadelphia, at a reunion concert of Solas, the band founded by Seamus Egan, who composed and produced the AMERICAN WAKE soundtrack.

Here’s what the Boston Herald recently had to say about Antje Duvekot, whose songs--co-written with Seamus, who also produced her debut CD, “Big Dream Boulevard”--grace the AMERICAN WAKE soundtrack: - “No emerging local singer-songwriter has more buzz.” And Ellis Paul, who joined Antje on our soundtrack, says: “She’s going to be the next big American folk singer-songwriter.” Look for “Big Dream Boulevard”!

Watch for Billy Smith as "Detective Reade" in Martin Scorsese's "The Departed" and as "Moe Riley" in the critically-acclaimed Showtime series, "Brotherhood."
